The Foundation for Surgical Innovation and
Education Surgical Research Intern
Job Description:
- Volunteer research position sponsored by The
Oregon Clinic GMIS (Gastrointestinal and
Minimally Invasive Surgery) Division & The
Foundation for Surgical Innovation & Research
- Position aimed at undergraduate or pre-
medical/PhD students interested in learning about
surgery and research.
- Intern will be exposed to multiple areas of
research such as basic science, clinical research
and surgical techniques laboratory.
- Intern will be introduced to research
development, grant writing, research manuscript
preparation and publication, and presentation.
- Opportunities for future paid positions may be
available on an individual basis.
- Hours are flexible
Expectations:
- Attend weekly GMIS departmental research
meetings.
- Participate in research projects.
- Help with labs including set-up/clean-up.
- Learn Institutional Review Board (IRB) and
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
(IACUC) proposal writing when applicable.
- Help with database development and data entry.
- Help with CME (continuing medical education)
courses.
- HIPPA training prior to accessing any patient
charts.
- Sterile techniques workshop.
