The Foundation for Surgical Innovation and
Education Surgical Research Intern


Job Description:

  • Volunteer research position sponsored by The
    Oregon Clinic GMIS (Gastrointestinal and
    Minimally Invasive Surgery) Division & The
    Foundation for Surgical Innovation & Research
  • Position aimed at undergraduate or pre-
    medical/PhD students interested in learning about
    surgery and research.
  • Intern will be exposed to multiple areas of
    research such as basic science, clinical research
    and surgical techniques laboratory.
  • Intern will be introduced to research
    development, grant writing, research manuscript
    preparation and publication, and presentation.
  • Opportunities for future paid positions may be
    available on an individual basis.
  • Hours are flexible


Expectations:

  • Attend weekly GMIS departmental research
    meetings.
  • Participate in research projects.
  • Help with labs including set-up/clean-up.
  • Learn Institutional Review Board (IRB) and
    Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
    (IACUC) proposal writing when applicable.
  • Help with database development and data entry.
  • Help with CME  (continuing medical education)
    courses.
  • HIPPA training prior to accessing any patient
    charts.
  • Sterile techniques workshop.
